Hi, my name is Shannon Wright and I was born and raised in Colorado. After graduating from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 2013, I fell in love with my partner, Emmanuelle, and decided to move to Los Angeles. We now reside here in Los Angeles with our dog daughter Frida.

I love food. I spend most of my time thinking and dreaming about what my next meal will be. Surprisingly, I grew up being a pretty picky eater - until a middle school trip to Florida with my aunts and cousin, where I tried seafood for the first time. That was step one into opening up my palate and trying new foods. By the time I was graduating from undergrad, I was enthralled with food. At the time, it mostly consisted of me eating out at every new and fun restaurant in Denver. After entering law school, I began cooking more and more. Cooking really got me through law school, it was my escape, my thing to look forward to, my everything. When I cook I love to listen to a podcast or music and you will see each of my recipes has what I like to listen to while cooking that recipe. Also, during law school I was diagnosed with a migraine condition and through that I learned how to control my diet to minimize the occurrences of migraines. That, coupled with my partner’s diet and the effect some of these food items have on our environment (more on that later), means that I do not eat a few things - beef, pork, aged cheese and red wine.

Since living in Los Angeles I have worked at two nonprofits, one in the education field and one surrounding environmental justice. In both of these roles I have learned and seen from a unique lens the effect that food, or lack thereof, has in Los Angeles. The education nonprofit that I worked for catered to students in South, East and Southeast Los Angeles. It was there I learned about how many of our students relied on the school’s breakfast, lunch and dinner programs for their daily meals. Also, that many of those neighborhoods were located in food deserts where access to fresh produce is almost nonexistent. In my current role, my company works to find and create clean energy and green solutions in a variety of sectors. Through this work I have also learned the impact that food can have on the climate, negative and positive.

My blog has parts of the most important things to me, food, food and social justice, my little family and music. Because of what food has and continues to do for me, I would love to push for more knowledge sharing around food justice issues that leads to changed behaviors to both increase access to healthy foods, and help heal the planet. Together we can Live Life Wright.
